The La Brea Tar Pits located in urban Los Angeles provided a well preserved look into our past. Tar has seeped up from the ground for tens of thousands of years. Covered with leaves, dust or water animals would get trapped in the pits. American Mastodon, Saber-Toothed Cat, North American Camel, Ground Sloth and ancient Bison remains were all preserved in the tar. It's remarkable to see the size of these creatures. Your imagination runs wild knowing these animals once inhabited Los Angeles and the surrounding area.
